The TextOnTap rules of effective media liaison
TextOnTap team members will:
- know and understand the needs of our clients' target media
- give journalists what they want - when they want it
- use plain English
- ensure that press releases are relevant to a reporter's readers/listeners/viewers/site visitors before submitting
- be known for providing well written, well researched material
- avoid buzzwords (they tend to get up journalist's noses once they've seen them several hundred times)
- be proactive - subscribing to and reviewing our client's key media and responding to articles and features where appropriate
- research the TextOnTap online feature facility on an ongoing basis - feeding information through about our clients for relevant scheduled articles and features
- review the TextOnTap planner regularly to check potential promotional opportunities, conferences, seminars, events and exhibitions which may be relevant to our clients
- constantly update the TextOnTap media lists and contact journalists individually with a personalised approach - never send blanket emails
- negotiate client-specific features and articles in key publications
- say thank you to the journalist concerned when a good piece of coverage comes in - it's amazing how many people don't bother.
